Quick Pick Table

10/08/2022 06:39 am GMT

Expert opinion:
I’m comfortable using tablets with a screen over 11 inches, whether it’s on Android or Windows (I’m fine with both OSs). But it is important for the tablet to work properly and not to freeze while working.
Sometimes I use a stylus, but the keyboard is still more convenient. So it is also important to consider the quality of the keyboard. Not all manufacturers can offer a really good headset.

Delivering a very good display, swift performance and epic battery, the 8th generation iPad is one of the best tablets for writers. What is more? This 10 inch screen tab sports a couple of features that were once restricted to Apple’s high-end tablets.

One of them is the Scribble handwriting to text translation, which means you can invest in the highly accurate and pressure-sensitive Apple Pencil. And for writers, you want to also get Apple’s Smart keyboard, intel core and micro sd for a pretty good typing experience.

Furthermore, the iPad pro comes with both front and rear cameras. They work just fine but don’t expect too much from them as they won’t give you exceptionally clear pictures. And as far as sound goes, you get stereo speakers at the bottom plus a headphone jack, which is a feature no recent Apple tablet has.

Design

The 10.2-inch iPad looks a lot like its pricey sibling. Although, this might be hard for some writers to figure out, so we can simply say this is a slim, attractive tablet that is lightweight. Other key differentiators include the magic keyboard, and the slightly bigger screen with comparatively thick bezels and buttons, which stick out slightly, making it easier for writers to find them visually.

Display

The new iPad 2020 comes with the same 10.2-inch liquid retina display on its predecessor. However, the lack of an upgrade doesn’t matter if it gets the writers done. With a resolution of 2160 x 1620 pixels (264ppi), the LCD screen is crisp, colorful and bright enough for web browsing, watching videos and more.

Performance

This is where it becomes clear that the new iPad 2020 isn’t the same as its predecessors, as the A12 Bionic chip under the hood keeps things pretty snappy. This tablet for writers doesn’t just run faster but can handle whatever multitasking tasks you throw at it without any issues. Thanks to clever optimization with iPadOS. Basically, the performance is impressive, the keyboard cover is outstanding considering its price point.

Battery life

Just like the apple ipad pro, the new iPad 2020 has a strong battery life, delivering up to 10 hours of battery juice away from the wall socket. Unfortunately, there is no wireless charging here. However, it comes with a 20W fast charger in the box alongside a USB-C to Lightning cable that takes just three hours to fully charge.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus is one of the best tablets for all writers in the market and a better alternative to apple ipad pro. It is the most capable Android productivity tablets for all writers. This tablet dazzles in design, functionality and performance, making it a worthy rival to Apple’s iPads.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus comes running with Android 10 with the proprietary One UI 3.5, both of which can be upgraded. Then, there is the brand’s Windows-like desktop environment that is more conducive to productivity, known as DeX. The bluetooth 5.0, Microsoft office, the keyboard and intel core are other great features.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus

Furthermore, you get an S-Pen Stylus in the box, which you can charge wirelessly by connecting it to the back of this writers tablet. Although it is optional, the Book Cover Keyboard is necessary to complete the experience of using the S7+.

For immersive audio, Samsung puts four AKG-tuned speakers in the S7 Plus – two on each side. With a maximum volume of 96dB, the audio is loud enough for movies and conference calls and the front camera is perfect.

Design

Aesthetically, the S7+ doesn’t stray too far from the S6 tablet family. It is the epitome of luxury, as shown by its sleek aluminum housing, buttons that sit almost flush with the tablet’s edge, symmetrical bezels and flat metal edges with a lovely brushed finish. Despite its large size, it is also lightweight and thin.  On the rear of the tab, the camera system protrudes 1.25mm alongside a dedicated magnetic strip for the S Pen stylus. As for the keyboard and fingerprint sensor, it is integrated like all Samsung’s high-end smartphones. The design of S7+ makes it possible to bend and twist this tablet for writers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus

Display

The S7+ sports a 12.4-inch large display that makes it awkward for writers to hold with one hand. It relies on a super AMOLED screen with a native resolution of 2800 x 1752 pixels and a 120GHz refresh rate.

Performance

As expected, the Samsung S7 Plus delivers smooth performance to writers, thanks to its powerful snapdragon 865+ chipset. The octa-core processor paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM proves to be lightning fast. It also has a great keyboard that gives room for a seamless performance while in use.

Battery life

Like the apple ipad pro, the S7 Plus has you covered with its 10,090mAh battery capacity that offers up to 8 hours of battery life. When the battery juice runs out, the 15W charger will fill the battery in under 3 hours.

Pros
  • The best large size AMOLED display
  • S Pen Included
  • Expandable Storage (up to 512 GB)
  • 4 stylish colors to choose from
  • Comfortable Keyboard
  • Fast charging and long battery life
  • Fingerprint scanner
Cons
  • Price is above average (but this tablet is powerful and will last for years, so it’s worth every penny)

The Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is a two-in-one tablet that serves as an upgrade to the excellent Surface Pro 6. It doesn’t fix all the inadequacies of its predecessor, but it does feature significant improvements, especially in its internals.  It is a great tablet for writing due to its amazing features and functionalities.

One of the notable features of the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 is the integrated kickstand, which can be used to set the screen to any angle you wants. However, keep in mind that this tablet for writing doesn’t come with a keyboard, so you might need to include a Surface Type Cover in your budget – and also a Surface Pen.

Furthermore, the Microsoft Surface Pro 7 comes with the Windows Hello facial recognition, which uses the tab’s infrared next to the camera. It is as speedy and accurate as before. Fortunately, Microsoft has improved the audio, making the speakers suitable for short YouTube or Netflix binge and providing stronger accuracy when using Cortana with your voice. Making Microsoft Surface Pro one of the best writing tab with amazing keyboard.

Microsoft - Surface Pro 7+

Design

If you have been a follower of Microsoft tablets, you are probably accustomed to the same design again and again over the last four iterations. The Surface Pro 7 isn’t any different as the detachable tablet comes with the same matte black and silver aluminum finishes. Like its predecessors, this tablet with long battery life can transform into a laptop, thanks to its rear-facing kickstand and optional Signature Type Cover Keyboard. The only significant change to the design is the addition of USB-C.

Display

The 12.3-inch screen of the Surface Pro 7 has a 2736 x 1824 pixel resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. It looks rich, colorful and is just as responsive to touch as the previous models. Plus, the bezels are quite thick with great a keyboard.

Performance

Many aspects of this device are the same, but the components are where Microsoft seems to have worked on the most. The Surface Pro 7 packs an Intel Core i5-1035G4, which is powerful enough to handle your multitasking crunch without sweat or lag.

Battery

Microsoft estimates up to 10.5 hours of battery life between charges, which is down significantly from last year’s Surface Pro 6. This implies that this surface pro writing tab has long battery life and perfect for various writing sessions.

Pros
  • Large display
  • Excellent keyboard, with which the tablet can replace a laptop (keyboard included)
  • Rather large built-in memory
  • Attractive matt design
  • Powerful stuffing that can handle any task
  • Great quality, the tablet will serve for many years without any problems
  • Long battery life
Cons
  • Not everyone is comfortable using Windows
  • High price
  • Some people complain that the tablet overheats
  • The wide frame around the display spoils the appearance

The Amazon Fire HD 10 is an improved version of an already good tablet, boasting several features that can help you get real work done. Whether you’re pulling up weather via Alexa, watching the news or sending an email, the Fire HD 10 can handle it without a hitch. Also this is one of the best cheap tablets for writing.

Amazon equips the Fire HD 10 with a 5MP rear camera and 2MP selfie camera, both of which are below average. However, the front-facing camera is slightly better and can deliver perfectly acceptable image quality for video conferences, even in low light conditions.

Going further, it appears Amazon didn’t change the speaker setup, which consists of two Dolby Atmos Integrated speakers on the top edge. They are loud enough to break through some cafe noise and have some oomph in the bass. There’s also an optional bundle that features a Fintie Bluetooth Keyboard and a Microsoft 365 subscription.

Design

One of the first things you’d notice about the Fire HD 10 is the improvement to its design, as the bezels around the screen are now uniform, making the tab easier to hold and giving it a more modern look than before. Its body is basically a big slab of matte plastic shell on one side and a glossy screen on the other. Following recent trends, the tablet is a bit smaller than its predecessor, but the weight of around 465g is alright. The tablet’s buttons and ports are all located on the right edge when held in landscape orientation, while the headphone jack is present and positioned at the top end.

Display

For an incredibly affordable tablet, the Fire HD 10’s display is colorful. The 10-inch display has a 1900 x 1200 resolution, with its 224 pixels per inch (PPI) matching the PPI of the previous model.

Performance

This year’s model of the Amazon Fire is powered by the MediaTek MT8183 Helio P60T, and the extra RAM that brings it to 3GB means no more jittering when scrolling. Apps also open fast and run smoothly with its gen intel making it one of the best tablets for writing.

Battery

This tablet for writing has a battery life 12 hours of battery life on a single charge, and you can get it charged from flat to 100% in 3.5 hours.

Pros
  • Good value
  • Many nice additional features
  • Wireless charging
  • Durable
  • Lightweight, compact
Cons
  • Uncomfortable location of volume and power buttons
  • Weak (not suitable for multitasking)
  • Battery discharges quickly, hardly enough for a whole day

Despite being called Lite, Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is an all-rounder that has plenty to offer anyone who wants an affordable writing tab with plenty of value. It gives an iPad experience to those looking to boost their productivity. It is one of the best tablet in the market and a great alternative to asus zenpad.

Complementing the nice screen is the keyboard and a pair of AKG-fine-tuned speakers with Dolby Atmos support. The second speaker is placed at the top of the tablet so you can get decent sound output even when the speaker is covered when holding the tablet in landscape mode. It gives surprisingly good stereo separation and is loud enough to fill a large room.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite display

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite ships with the S Pen stylus in the box at no extra cost, which clips magnetically to the side of the writers tablet, so it doesn’t fall when you carry it around. It can be used for note-taking on third-party apps like Microsoft One Note, as well as for drawing and sketching.

There’s also the camera setup which includes the 8MP rear shooter and the 5MP front camera, with the latter being suitable for video calls. This tablet is perfect for writing on the go.

Design

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite might not have the most attractive design, but there are quite a number of things to like about it. For instance, its glass front and metal back make give it some premium appeal, while a mid-sized bezel runs around the screen. As for weight, it’s not heavy per se, but you might feel it if you hold the tab for a prolonged time.

There’s no home button or fingerprint sensor, so you will have to rely on Samsung’s insecure face unlock or resort to typing your password. The back of the tablet houses the rear camera along with antenna bands, while the headphone jack at the top edge and the power button as well as the volume rocker on the right edge. The keyboard also offers great performance.

working with Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

Display

The 10.4-inch LCD screen comes with a 2000 x 1000 pixel resolution with 224 PPI. If you’re used to AMOLED screens, the LCD might seem a little washed out, but the screen quality is actually good for LCD in that it is bright, color-rich and easy to view even when you’re outdoors. It also comes with a smart keyboard, a surface pen and type cover.

Performance

Performance is what matters most in a tablet, and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite doesn’t disappoint in this regard. Thanks to the Exynos 9611 chipset, front camera, bluetooth keyboards, and the 4GB RAM. This chipset isn’t very powerful, but it does the job just fine making this the best tablet for writers.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite comes with a big 7040mAh battery cell to last you through a day of typical use. It delivers more than 11 hours on a single charge.

Pros
  • Great price and quality
  • Enough internal memory
  • Crystal Clear Display
  • 3 luxurious colors to choose from
  • Handy S PEN INCLUDED
  • No lag, runs fast
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Do not have a 3.5 headphone jack

When you want a writing laptop-tablet hybrid that will last you the whole day at work and still have enough battery juice for a Netflix binge, the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 is a brilliant option to consider. You get excellent performance and insane battery life at a mainstream price. This tablet with a rear camera is great alternative to Microsoft surface go. It is perfect for writing on Microsoft word and a better alternative to asus zenpad.

For capturing selfies and video calls, you get only a 720p Webcam, which is accurate even in low light. Similarly, the audio quality and screen sizes from the dual 2-watt speakers is adequate for Skype. It manages to deliver full, rich and clear sounds. The mic quality is also surprisingly good and the Bluetooth keyboards is all you need to have a great writing session.

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5

Design

Right of the bat, the biggest of the IdeaPad Flex 5’s selling point is its 360-degree hinge, which makes it more flexible than your regular clamshell laptop. You can quickly turn your laptop into a writing tablet for a more intuitive interaction so you can write with the digital pen that comes with it.

With regards to its appearance, there’s nothing flashy about the IdeaPad Flex 5, as it comes in an all-plastic body with a matte finish that gives a pleasing look and feel. As for the keyboard connectivity, it sports curved keycaps and a numeric keypad on the right. The keys are backlit, while the touchpad is an easy click and accurate. On the right side of the touchpad, you will find a fingerprint scanner.

Display

Considering that the Flex 5 wasn’t made for gaming, photo editing or any kind of high-end work, the screen keyboards is actually quite good. You get a 1920 x 1080 display that’s crisp and vivid. It isn’t as bright as conventional tablets, but it is bright enough for writing work. With the touchscreen keyboard being very responsive making it a great alternative to surface go.

Performance

The operations of the Flex 5 are managed by AMD Ryzen 4500 processor. The chipset is apparently not one designed to run complex tasks, but in real-world terms, it will deliver long-lasting, consistent performance for both works and play.

Battery

Battery life has been one of the strongest fortes of Lenovo, and the Flex 5 maintains that tradition, offering more than 16 hours of usage on a single charge.

Pros
  • Various uses (tent, stand, laptop)
  • Powerful, suitable for all kinds of tasks
  • Huge screen
Cons
  • High price
  • Heavy and takes up a lot of space

With Chromebooks becoming more and more popular, the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 is a fantastic piece of technology that many people will find attractive because it fits the idea of what a Chromebook should be: small, inexpensive capable enough to handle work and light play.

The Spin 311 runs on Chrome OS, which is an operating system built by Google, and that means you get access to more than 2 million apps on Google Play Store. Plus, the bottom-firing stereo speakers do not distort in an ugly way but don’t expect high quality and loud sound output from them.

Design

The Spin 311 toes the line of several other Chromebooks that attempt to achieve a MacBook look. It’s a symphony in black with thick bezels around the screen with an all-plastic body. This plastic isn’t slippery, neither is it a dust and dirt magnet. Rather, it feels durable and sends the message that the tablet can stand up to punishment.

Furthermore, the Spin 311 has no flex anywhere in its body (including the keyboard and hinges), demonstrating that it is well built. Both the keyboard and touchpad are satisfying to use, but there’s no fingerprint scanner. It is tiny and easy to carry around.

two Acer Chromebooks Spin 311

Display

The Spin 311 sports an 11.6-inch IPS display with touch support that combines with a 1336 x 768 pixels resolution. While the screen isn’t as bright and sharp as some of its rivals but it’s easy to read text. The display is covered in antimicrobial Gorilla Glass for protection against falls.

Performance

The Spin 311 is powered by an octa-core MediaTek M8183 which is paired with 4GB of RAM. Based on the size of the machine, the keyboard and processing power is suitable for smooth performance. Jumping from a window to another is snappy.

Battery

The battery life of the Spin 311 is average as it clocks just about 8 hours, but the upside is that you can fully charge it in under 2 hours.

Pros
  • Various uses (tent, stand, laptop)
  • Low price
  • Good keyboard
Cons
  • Heavy and takes up a lot of space
  • Very wide, ugly frames

The Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus is a solid piece of technology that works well for writers and people looking to be productive at work. At first glance, you are mesmerized by its slim bezels, colorful and display and engaging interface – all at an affordable price.  Its amazing features makes it one of the best tablet for writers.

One of the unique selling points of the M10 Plus is Google Assistant Ambient Mode, which transforms the tablet for writing into a smart display. The quality of both cameras is average, but they are usable for Skype video chats or simple selfies.

You also get built-in facial recognition, but it’s unsurprisingly not as fast as Apple’s Face ID. As mentioned earlier, the M10 Plus comes with stereo speakers on opposite ends of the device, and it supports Dolby Atmos to deliver a well-amplified sound. Due to its portability, it is perfect for writing on the go.

Lenovo Tab M10 in a case

Design

Just in terms of looks, it’s not hard to figure out why this tablet feels very high-end as it is a very smooth and sleek piece of kit with a full metal body. The build quality of this writing device is so good that it can easily be judged one of the best-built Android tablets in its price range.

A thin round metal runs around its body and gets slightly thicker at the top to accommodate the front-facing camera. On the right side of the tab are the power button and volume rocker, while the top and bottom edges are home to the speaker grille. Flip the phone around, and you will see the single camera with a slightly raised bump.

Display

The vivid, rich colors of the Lenovo Tab M10 are made possible by the 10.3-inch, 1920 x 1200 pixels. Admittedly, it is not sharp as other tablets on the list, but the full HD resolution is good enough on 10 inches. Thanks to its IPS panel, you will be able to view it clearly from both sides too.

Performance

The LenovoTab M10 Plus runs on an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22T and is supported by 4GB of RAM. The keyboard handles most tasks just fine but can’t run heavy games optimally.

Battery

This writers tablet has a long battery life like the ipad pro. It delivers up to 8 hours of battery juice away from the wall socket.

Pros
  • low price
  • all-metal back cover
  • thin
  • responsive touch
Cons
  • not powerful enough for new applications and multitasking (but good for the price)
  • little memory
  • no keyboard

Conclusion

As a writer, the importance of writing tabs cannot be overemphasized. If you are in search of the best writing tablet for you, it might help to consider a few key features. These features include the screen size, front camera, storage, keyboard, processing power, writing software, quad core, and battery life.
